My husband's family is from Laredo, an 8+ hour trip from Dallas, straight down Hwy 35E. With 3 little kiddos, going to see them for a few days is almost impossible. But we haven't been down to see them in forever and we have a new baby to share, so we decided to make the trip for Thanksgiving. We had a great friend doggy sit for us, so we didn't have to worry about them all week. We were staying with Marco's mom and boyfriend, so we didn't have to worry about hotel fees or food. Plus we have the new beast of a truck, our Ford Expedition, that made the long road trip manageable with lots of leg room, cargo room, and of course the icing on the cake, the DVD player!! We were able to put Maddi in the back row, surrounded by all the luggage, which she loved, and Ella and Brayden in the middle row (which left a seat for me to crawl my big 'ol booty into if the baby got too fussy before we could stop).
The trip down was a breeze, of course, we made great time and only hit traffic in Austin (side note: How people from Austin deal with the traffic is beyond me. There is ALWAYS traffic no matter what time you are traveling through!!)
We spent the week catching up with his mom, aunts and uncles, cousins, and friends. It was by far the best visit to Laredo to date. It was hard to leave since we had such a good time hanging out, eating, and of course shopping. Nothing makes my husband more happy than when we are with family back in his home town. How can you say no to a grueling road trip when your significant other looks like this??
We had an amazing trip, even though the trip home was tough. It was well worth it, and I cannot wait to visit again!!!
How did you spend your Thanksgiving??
